HP Projector Execs, All Talk, No Walk
Hewlett-Packard, for a company that doesn’t at all dominate the current projector market is sure making a lot of waves as the summer ends in 2005. Whether or not that will translate into a larger market share is yet to be seen, but MyProjectorLamps.com gives top marks to their PR department. The company has just released two micro projectors to the Middle East markets, in an attempt to capture busy business executive’s heart and minds. The projectors also aim to capture a segment of the mobile projector market that is just now emerging. The projectors in question are the all-new MP3135 and the VP6300.
The mangers and public relations people at HP are touting these units as the next big thing and exclaiming that they exhibit “true to life†color. They boast that the projector lamp inside each unit will help the DLP wheel produce vivid colours as the world has never seen before.
However, this editor believes that HP has consistently spouted off the qualities of their projectors with very little market translation. Most large projector lamp sites, including this one, do not even carry replacements for HP projectors. Further, we find that we get requests for HP projector lamps once in a blue moon or perhaps once in 1000 emails. If HP is doing so well, why does nobody seem to have a HP projector? Or need any HP projector lamps?
What we have found over the brief history of this website, is that HP is a hype machine. They must have at least 100,000 people writing content for them 24 hours a day. Alright, well, maybe its not that bad, but they do hype themselves up quite a lot.
Now, there is nothing wrong with a little hype, we regualrly tell people how stoked we are to be offering projector lamps for such low prices. But HP does the “hype†thing like they’re on steroids. And what is almost comical is when they spout off about their products in an industry that they appear to be next to non-existent in.
Hewlett-Packard definitely does not impact the projector or projector lamp industries in a big way. So, next time your looking for projector lamp or projector news and you find an HP article, be wary.
Until next time, take it easy.
